Custom Walnut Pet Feeding Station

Custom Walnut Pet Feeding Station

Anyone that has gotten a new pup, know the excitement that comes with it! You have to get all of the accessories and must haves of dog ownership. Collar, name tag, food and water bowls... Wait, what? You can't use just plain bowls for your new best friend to eat and drink out of. That's disgusting! So, whatever can you do?

YOU MAKE ONE!!!

By the way, my new best friends name is Kooper.

I decided to use all walnut for the build and in a contemporary modern-ish vibe. I found a couple ceramic bowls to use for the build also. They are both very clearly embellished to read 'Eat' and 'Drink'. And before someone says it, I know Kooper can't read what the bowls say. I'm not a total moron. He's way too little to know how to read yet.

But I digress...

I started by making an MDF template to make the legs and glued up each side of the base.

Then I cut my 2 small stretchers and glued up the assembled base using dominoes.

I measured the lip on the base of the bowls and used the laser to cut a router template to cut my recesses to keep the bowls from sliding around.

I dry fit the top on the base to see if it looked right for the sizing since I hadn't really drawn up anything on this and just started building.

Thankfully, everything looked good.

I then went back to the laser and did a deep engraving with his name and filled it with some white epoxy resin.

You know, so he'll know it's his...

I finish sanded everything and finished with Rubio Monocoat Pure then attached the top to the base. placed the bowls, then it was good to go!

He's been using it for a little while and I'm not so sure he's impressed.

Oh, well. Onward.
